Time-series of India temperatures, NOAA

A NOAA group has been working on an area averaged temperature time-series for China, India, and the United States. The goal of creating a country or small temperature series is for aid in the climate models. The scale of the models is often too coarse to capture trends in country sized areas. For India, the number of stations with temperature data back to 1880 is small, but the countrywide trend does show an increase in temperature since 1880. A cautionary note
about the paucity of data sites and interpolating across a whole country based on number of sites should, however, be noted.
